IAOP NorCal & Digital Enterprise Joint Chapter Meeting

Thursday, November 9, 2017
3:30pm – 6:30pm Pacific Time

How digital platforms and services are changing the way businesses and governments work

Remember “cloudwashing,” when there was more hype than reality to predictions of the cloud-centered enterprise? Eventually, reality caught up, though, and today the cloud provides the platform for most of us to conduct everyday business.

From the heart of Silicon Valley, the NorCal and Digital Enterprise chapters of IAOP have teamed up to bring you two stories of how the possible is becoming the new digital normal. We warmly invite Bay Area residents to attend in person in Palo Alto. Those outside the Bay Area can join us by webcast-

1. Smart Cities: How the City of Santa Clara is embracing new digital services –
The adoption of digital services in the private sector has raised expectations for municipalities to provide similar citizen services. Gaurav Garg, CIO, City of Santa Clara and will discuss how Santa Clara is using new technologies to improve service delivery and drive its economy. He’ll be joined by Avasant’s Henry Guapo, Partner and Public Sector Global Lead.

2. Outsource Well or Else! Learn the 7 keys of successful software outsourcing in action –
Accelerance CEO and founder Steve Mezak shares his year-long personal journey to develop a two-sided online business platform, using an outsourced software design and development team. Mezak will share how he used the 7 Keys of Successful Outsourcing to handle the inevitable course corrections along the way: fixing a bad user interface, facing major security flaws and adopting a DevOps approach. Attendees will learn how to select and manage an outsourced development team, what to look for and avoid, and how the new platform (now in beta release) makes the process easier.

IAOP is the association that brings together customers, providers, and advisors in a collaborative, knowledge-based environment that promotes professional and organizational development, recognition, certification, and excellence to improve business service models and outcomes.

Organizations have become increasingly technology-driven and interdependent through an array of ever-changing collaborative business models. Most generally referred to as ‘outsourcing’, these approaches include multi-sourcing, global business services, offshoring, nearshoring, robotic process automation (RPA), cloud-sourcing and many other variants. Both opportunities and challenges have emerged from these changes: new technologies like SMAC have moved front and center; partners have become sources of not just efficiency, but innovation; security and privacy have taken on new urgency; and even the most basic management principles have begun to give way to new approaches led by a new generation of business leaders.

IAOP’s unique characteristic—core competency—is its ability to bring together this diverse, highly collaborative and passionate group of individuals and organizations.
