Although use of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) for e-commerce predates commercial use of the Internet, utilization of the Internet as the basis for EDI is rapidly gaining ground over EDI based on traditional use of value-added networks (VANs). According to statistics gathered by Computer Economics, adoption of Internet-based EDI will soon surpass VAN-based EDI, due to its more attractive ROI and TCO characteristics. (5 pp., 4 figs.)
