Practice Maturity
- CenturyLink offers comprehensive hybrid cloud managed services, leveraging its rich adaptive network that connects 2,200+ on-net data centers, and 350+ owned data centers. It also manages over 80,000 devices through its robust software-defined network.
- It has taken a platform-centric approach through its Cloud Application Manager (CAM), a cloud-management platform that CenturyLink gained from its acquisition of ElasticBox in 2016. To accelerate its go-to-market strategy, CenturyLink has trained more than 200 resources across CAM functionalities through its Cloud Academy.
- It has developed multiple cross-pollinated technology solutions such as Smart Venue (IoT and Edge computing), point solutions (spend analytics), and threat intelligence. It also intends to build verticalized solutions on the cloud for its travel and transportation customers.
- It has been expanding beyond its traditional strength areas of telecom, travel, and government to other industry verticals such as BFSI and healthcare. Consequently, it has developed HIPAA-enabled colocation and managed services to all healthcare and healthcare-related organizations.
Partnership Ecosystem
- CenturyLink has established deep partnerships with hyperscale and technology leaders such as AWS (managed service provider), Microsoft (Expert MSP), Cisco (Gold partner), HPE (Premier partner), and SAP (Platinum partner) for licensing and joint go-to-market (GTM) programs. It has announced to add Google’s Cloud platform this year for providing hybrid cloud managed services.
- It is co-developing cloud solutions in partnership with cloud orchestration platform providers. For instance, it has developed vCloud Air, a secure hybrid cloud platform, powered by VMware’s vSphere and Private cloud on VMware Foundation, which is available in 31 hosting locations on four continents.
- As SAP global platinum reseller, CenturyLink supports SAP S/4HANA implementations deployed on public and private clouds across industry verticals.
Investments & Innovation
- On the asset development front, CenturyLink has announced major enhancements to its Private Cloud on VMware Cloud Foundation, including expanding the platform to AWS and Dell EMC PowerEdge servers and integrating AI/ML and spend capabilities into Cloud Application Manager.
- They also made a USD 100M investment in edge computing technology, under which it has created 100+ edge compute locations across the US and providing a range of hybrid solutions.
- It continues to utilize acquisitions to expand global footprint and accelerate hybrid cloud capabilities. Some of its recent ones are Level 3 (2017) and SEAL consulting (2017).
