The Hitachi Hour analyst session held on 6th August 2026 in Bangalore brought together executives from Hitachi Digital Services and adesso SE, including Patrick Corcoran, vice president and global head of marketing at Hitachi Digital Services; Vijay Srinivasan, chief growth officer at Hitachi Digital Services; Pramod Muralidharan, managing director at adesso SE; Torsten Wegener, a member of the executive board at adesso SE, and Mark Lohweber, CEO at adesso SE. The session also introduced Anand Birje, who recently assumed the role of chief executive officer of Hitachi’s Digital Engineering and AI Business Unit. The discussions highlighted Hitachi’s evolving growth strategy through ecosystem partnerships, engineering-led innovation, AI, and renewed strategic leadership, with a focus on strengthening its digital engineering and industrial transformation capabilities.

adesso SE: Business Profile, Growth, and AI Capabilities

Pramod Muralidharan highlighted adesso SE’s position as one of Germany’s leading IT service providers, backed by strong engineering capabilities across financial services, automotive, manufacturing, utilities, healthcare, and the public sector. The company has a strong presence in the DACH region — with 41 of its more than 60 locations based there — and generated around €1.47B in revenue in 2025, with a workforce of approximately 11,200 employees. Having maintained double-digit growth, adesso SE is now expanding its international delivery footprint through its SmartShore strategy, including investments in India with new engineering centers in Chennai and Pune. Its key areas of focus include automotive, healthcare, manufacturing, and sports. Muralidharan also introduced adesso SE Smart Scale, the company’s enterprise AI framework designed to help organizations move agentic AI into production, with a focus on trusted governance, explainability, digital sovereignty, and enterprise-grade deployment. Supporting this is adSCAILE, adesso SE’s AI engineering and delivery platform, which helps accelerate the development and deployment of agentic AI solutions.

Hitachi Digital Services–adesso SE Partnership: Strategic and Industry Focus

Patrick Corcoran described the partnership with adesso SE as one of Hitachi Digital Services’ most important strategic alliances outside the broader Hitachi Group. The collaboration brings together complementary strengths and a shared engineering mindset and has already evolved into joint go-to-market initiatives and active client engagements across asset-intensive industries. Hitachi Digital Services contributes its global engineering scale, operational technology expertise, AI capabilities, and deep industrial heritage. At the same time, adesso SE brings strong customer relationships and a well-established presence across the DACH market.

Vijay Srinivasan added that the partnership is built around a three- to five-year road map, with an initial focus on energy and utilities, automotive, and transportation and logistics. The two organizations are looking to combine their capabilities to deliver end-to-end, domain-led transformation across areas such as intelligent operations, predictive maintenance, industrial AI, cloud modernization, connected products, and digital engineering.

adesso SE’s European Expansion, Engineering Culture, and Digital Sovereignty

The partnership also allows Hitachi Digital Services to deepen its presence in Europe, particularly in the German market, where many large enterprises are headquartered. For adesso SE, the relationship opens the door to the broader One Hitachi ecosystem and provides a path to take its capabilities beyond its traditionally DACH-focused footprint.

Torsten Wegener emphasized that adesso SE has been intentional about scaling the business without losing the engineering culture, customer focus, industry expertise, or execution discipline that have been central to its growth. India, he noted, is being positioned as a strategic engineering hub rather than simply a conventional offshore delivery center.

Mark Lohweber also pointed to the strong cultural fit between the two organizations. He highlighted that, in the future, enterprise differentiation will increasingly depend on integrating AI with industrial knowledge, operational technology, manufacturing expertise, and deep domain engineering. The discussion also highlighted digital sovereignty as an increasingly important priority for European enterprises, particularly those operating in highly regulated industries.

Insights on GlobalLogic Integration – Formation of Hitachi’s Digital Engineering & AI Solutions Business Unit

The session introduced Anand Birje, following his appointment as CEO of Hitachi’s Digital Engineering and AI Business Unit, signaling Hitachi’s increasing strategic emphasis on AI-led engineering transformation. Birje outlined a vision of bringing together software engineering, AI, cloud, data, and industrial expertise under a unified operating model to strengthen Hitachi’s position as an engineering-led digital transformation partner. He emphasized Physical AI engineering services as a strategic bet and highlighted the following priorities in this AI evolution:

  1. End-to-end product and platform engineering for Physical AI-enabled autonomous systems for asset-intensive industries such as manufacturing, oil and gas, energy & utilities, freight and logistics, and supply chain, etc.
  2. Seamless integration of Physical AI systems with the existing/brownfield operational technology workflows of enterprises.

These priorities include accelerating AI adoption through practical business use cases, strengthening digital engineering capabilities, expanding ecosystem partnerships, and leveraging Hitachi’s combination of IT, OT, and product engineering expertise to deliver measurable business value. Responsible AI, resilient engineering, and customer-centric innovation were also identified as key pillars of Hitachi’s next phase of growth.

GlobalLogic Integration and the Emerging Hitachi–GlobalLogic–adesso SE Full-Stack Model

GlobalLogic’s software product and platform engineering, embedded software, and device driver engineering capabilities, combined with Hitachi’s strengths across asset-intensive industrial enterprises, are expected to form the foundation of Hitachi’s Digital Engineering Services strategic business unit.

Hitachi, GlobalLogic, and adesso SE are being positioned together to build full-stack, end-to-end life cycle services across “Chip-to-Cloud” – bringing together Hitachi’s industrial and operational technology strengths, GlobalLogic’s software product and platform engineering and embedded software and systems engineering capabilities, and adesso SE’s presence in the DACH region, long-term strategic customer relationships, and domain-led strategy advisory expertise.

Avasant’s PoV

Overall, Avasant views the partnership with adesso SE as a strategically meaningful move by Hitachi Digital Services that goes beyond a conventional ecosystem alliance, combining complementary geographic, engineering, and industry strengths.

  1. Going global for adesso SE and building regionally for Hitachi Digital Services — Leverage their complementary geographic strengths, with adesso SE using Hitachi Digital Services and the broader Hitachi Group’s global presence to expand its cloud and AI advisory, software product and platform engineering services, while enabling Hitachi Digital Services to strengthen its presence in the DACH market through adesso SE’s established regional footprint and long-term strategic partnerships.
  2. Synergy over domain expertise — Both service providers have been consistent in showcasing advisory and consulting focus, and domain expertise as key differentiators in their respective competitive landscape. This can be seen as a synergy, with adesso SE’s capabilities across cloud and AI complementing Hitachi Digital Services’ HARC framework.
  3. Making adesso SE the face of the DACH market — Well-cemented presence of adesso SE in the DACH region, across both its customer base and delivery capabilities, means that the success of the partnership and the acquisition of new logos in the region will depend on the strategic autonomy of adesso SE and the GTM powered by the extensive portfolio of offerings of Hitachi Digital Services and other Hitachi Group entities. Augmenting offerings for adesso’s existing customer base will improve NPS and accelerate new customer acquisition. Hence, strategically formulating “adesso SE + One Hitachi” is imperative.
  4. Premium positioning through nearshore-heavy model — adesso SE runs about €1.47B in revenue in 2025, across roughly 11,200 employees — call it €131,000 per head. That is significantly higher than offshore-heavy providers, as adesso SE primarily delivers through onshore and nearshore teams rather than shifting work to low-cost offshore locations. The focus is on cloud, AI, and software product engineering, with clients spread across financial services, automotive, healthcare, manufacturing, the public sector, and sports. Now, if it pushes into North America, Canada, the UK, and APAC, whether it can sustain premium pricing there is the open question. New markets mean less name recognition and tougher local competition, so the burden shifts to proof; they would need concrete client outcomes, not capability decks.
  5. Investment in engineering practices and emerging technology capabilities —The partnership’s success won’t hinge on geography alone. It depends on real investment in engineering capabilities like AI, agentic AI, digital twins, and cloud-native platforms. What matters is whether their Centers of Excellence produce reusable assets, trained talent, and client results, not just branding. While adesso SE and Hitachi Digital Services have partnerships with cloud hyperscalers and software and data platform vendors, it is imperative to leverage these partners to build reusable assets and formulate a joint GTM. The market wants proof: where the labs are located and whether pilots actually scale.
  6. Filling the white spaces to become a chip-to-cloud engineering life cycle services provider — Hitachi Digital Engineering and AI Solutions is clearly looking to differentiate itself through Physical AI engineering and its integration into operational technology workflows. To make this ambition credible, Hitachi Digital Services should more tightly integrate GlobalLogic’s deep engineering expertise and assets—spanning delivery capabilities, labs, CoEs, reusable IP, and platform-led engineering accelerators—into its broader operating model. This will help Hitachi move beyond a collection of strong but separate capabilities and position itself as a full-service chip-to-cloud engineering life cycle partner. Backed by the “One Hitachi” strategy, this integrated proposition can resonate strongly with enterprise buyers looking for end-to-end support across embedded systems, software platforms, cloud, AI, and industrial operations.

Conclusion

The Hitachi Digital Services–adesso SE partnership has strong strategic logic: Hitachi brings industrial depth, global scale, and OT-led transformation credibility, while adesso SE adds deep DACH market access, customer intimacy, and a nearshore-led consulting and engineering model. With GlobalLogic in the mix, Hitachi also gains a stronger software product engineering, embedded systems, and platform development backbone, helping create a more complete IT, OT, and engineering services proposition. However, the real test will be execution. The partnership will need to move beyond complementary narratives and show clear evidence of joint offerings, integrated go-to-market execution, strong engineering investments, innovation hubs, reusable assets, and measurable business outcomes for clients. If Hitachi Digital Services, adesso SE, and GlobalLogic can combine global engineering scale with local market relevance and domain-led AI transformation, they will be well positioned to build a differentiated full-stack engineering and AI services model for European enterprises and, over time, scale it into other priority markets.
