Intel’s introduction of the Itanium 2 in late spring of 2002 has not shaken up the high-end server marketplace yet. Although the long-term payback from this new technology is still uncertain, one must keep in mind Intel’s success in the PC market. One traditional method for assessing performance is by running benchmarks, and the Itanium 2 has shown some impressive results measured in this manner.
