Laptop Donation Drive
Give a Laptop. Open a Door.
Help students learn, participate, and build their future.
Access to a computer should never be a barrier to education. Through our Laptop Donation Program, donated laptops are loaned to students participating in Avasant Foundation programs, giving them reliable access to the technology they need to learn, complete assignments, develop digital skills, and participate fully in class.
Your donated laptop can make a meaningful difference. One device can provide a student with the tools and confidence to learn, grow, and prepare for opportunities in the digital economy.
Donate a laptop today and help put technology directly into the hands of a student who needs it.
Laptop Donation Guidelines
To help us provide reliable, classroom-ready technology to our students, we welcome the donations listed below. To make sure donated equipment can be put to meaningful use, some devices may not be suitable for our program at this time.
We accept
- Windows laptops from approximately the past five years, any brand
- Intel Core i3 / AMD Ryzen 3 or better, with at least 8 GB of RAM or the ability to upgrade
- Laptops with a working SSD or hard drive already installed
- Fully functional devices, including a working screen, keyboard, battery, and essential components
- Accessories, including chargers, docking stations, mice, headsets, and monitors
- Mixed batches of equipment — we will sort, assess, and grade devices when they are received
Equipment That May Not Be Suitable
- Laptops with cracked screens and/or failed mainboards
- Devices with an active hardware lock or Mobile Device Management (MDM) enrollment
- Desktop computers, servers, printers, or CRT monitors
- Tablets and smartphones
- Chromebooks or non-Windows laptops
- Non-functional devices or laptops requiring a replacement battery, storage drive, or major repair
A Few Things to Know Before Donating
How do we make sure our data is gone?
Your organization is responsible for securely removing all data before the equipment is donated. Please erase all data from every device according to your organization’s data-security standards. We recommend a full disk wipe consistent with NIST 800-88 guidelines or an appropriate factory reset that securely clears the drive.
Please leave the working storage drive installed so the laptop is ready to be prepared for student use. We are not responsible for removing or recovering data left on donated devices, so please ensure all organizational and personal information has been securely removed before the laptops leave your office.
Is the donation tax deductible?
Laptop donations may be tax deductible, depending on your organization’s circumstances and applicable tax regulations. We can provide a donation acknowledgment for qualifying contributions. Please consult your tax advisor regarding the deductibility and valuation of your donation.
What happens to machines you can't use?
We carefully assess every device we receive. Equipment that meets our program requirements is prepared for use by students. When possible, equipment that does not meet our requirements may be redirected for responsible recycling or other appropriate reuse.
Who receives the laptops?
Donated laptops are loaned to students participating in Avasant Foundation programs who need access to a computer for their coursework and learning. Providing a reliable device helps students participate fully in class, complete assignments, build digital skills, and prepare for opportunities in the digital economy.
Can we donate from more than one office?
Absolutely. We welcome donations collected from multiple offices or locations. If you are coordinating a larger or multi-location donation, please contact us so we can help streamline the process.
We only have a handful. Is it still worth it?
Absolutely. Every laptop makes a difference. A small donation can provide students with the technology they need to participate in class and complete their learning. Whether you have one laptop or a large batch, your contribution helps expand access to digital education and opportunity.
