Avasant Foundation Graduates First Cohort of Students to Benefit from Digital Skills for Global Services in Trinidad and Tobago

Avasant Foundation has concluded its first training cohort of 49 students in Trinidad and Tobago benefitting from Digital Skills for Global Services. The program is designed by the Avasant Foundation to equip youth aged 18-29 with the relevant skills to prosper in the digital economy as part of the Avasant Digital Youth Employment Initiative.

The program is designed by the Avasant Foundation to equip youth aged 18-29 with the relevant skills to prosper in the digital economy as part of the Avasant Digital Youth Employment Initiative. Modules of training were presented on the topics of professional skills and customer service, Microsoft Office, Web Design, Data Analytics, Project Management, Cybersecurity, Agile and more. The Digital Skills for Global Services program was made possible in Trinidad and Tobago in partnership with The Massy Group and CTS College of Business and Computer Science and supported with funding from the Ministry of Planning and Development via the International Development Bank.

Avasant Foundation Executive Director, Chitra Rajeshwari hosted the graduation ceremony at The Massy Group Stores DSC 0760 300x240 - Avasant Foundation Graduates First Cohort of Students to Benefit from Digital Skills for Global Services in Trinidad and Tobagohead office in Port of Spain. In attendance were many supporters of the program, such as representatives from the IDB and Ministry of Planning. Key program collaborators such as the Massy Group’s CEO, Gervase Warner, and Senior Vice President of HR, Julie Avey, and CTS College’s Executive Director, Ravi Ragoonath were also in attendance. The full complement of the local Avasant office was also present to support and commemorate the occasion.

Inspirational addresses were delivered by Peter Mitchell, Director (AG), Project Planning and Reconstruction, Division of the Ministry of Planning; Rocio Medina Bolivar, Country Representative for the International Development Bank; Gervase Warner, CEO and President of the Massy Group; and Kevin S. Parikh, Global CEO of Avasant and Chairman of the Avasant Foundation.

Massy Group CEO, Gervase Warner remarked “The acceleration of processing, storage and communication technology has ushered in an era of rapid change and disruption. Technology is disrupting industries and jobs alike.” He told the 49 graduates, “you are fortunate to have graduated from this program. The skills you have learned will help prepare you for jobs of the future, that will more require programming, analytics and emotional intelligence competencies.” He asked the graduates to “please use the experience from this program to step up with ideas and contributions in your workplaces or for innovations to start your own businesses. Please continue learning, I look forward to seeing the contributions that you will make to our transition to digital economies in the region.”

Avasant Foundation Executive Director, Chitra Rajeshwari congratulated the students for their commitment and perseverance through the challenges of the training program. “The combination of skills which each graduate has achieved levels of mastery begins a transformative journey not only for the graduates but for the entire country and region. With the support of key industry leads and the government ministries, we have started a fire, the embers of which I hope will continue to push for additional learning and growth opportunities for high-potential and hardworking youth,” Rajeshwari noted.

The event concluded successfully with reflections shared by the students on their growth, progress and learnings before being awarded their certificates.
