Practice Maturity

  • HCL had an early focus on SD-WAN and set up a dedicated practice for developing capabilities in this space as early as 2014. Its practice has grown between 50 to 75% over the last 12 months. Its SD-WAN managed services is being offered under the network services portfolio, backed by 1,100+ experts, global collocation, and carrier neutral points-of-presence (PoP)
  • Its flagship SD-WAN automation framework NetBot has gained significant acceptance among its existing customers. More than half of its existing logos use it and is now the default offering for new logos. It also launched an exclusive chatbot for NetBot platform
  • While HCL continues to leverage its current SDN practice, which is 35-40% of overall infrastructure services and supported by 300+ SDN resources, it has aggressive plans to enhance and expand its SD-WAN capabilities
  • In terms of moving clients from PoC to production, its utilizes both fixed-price and consumption-based pricing models

Partnership Ecosystem

  • HCL has forged deep partnerships with leading SD-WAN platform, software and hardware providers. Its long-running partnership with Cisco include conducting PoCs on Cisco ENCS, filing ~70+ SD-WAN patents (network management, CDN+ etc.) and integrating the Cisco DNAC platform with NetBot
  • It has also collaborated with leading telcos such as AT&T and Telstra for carrier neutral locations PoPs and to establish a carrier-agnostic data transport layer. Additionally, it is co-developing and running multiple PoCs with security firewall providers such as Aruba networks, Palo Alto, ZScaler, and Check Point

Investments and Innovation

  • HCL has invested in SD-WAN hardware, technical capabilities, and use cases aspect. In particular, it has integrated AI and cognitive capabilities in its NetAssess platform, and built a universal SD controller for unified orchestration
  • Additionally, it has established ‘Software-Defined Infrastructure’ lab in Chennai, India to conduct integrated solutions demos, co-develop proof-of-concepts (PoC) in sandbox environment and leverage best practices and design pattern to co-innovate with customers
