The potential for distributed web services to provide access and applications to a dispersed user base keeps interest in the technology high. The ability of employees, business partners, and customers to tap into any type of computing resources under a secure umbrella from desktops, laptops, PDAs, and other devices is worth pursuing. Some of these attempts have provided a satisfying level of success and yielded positive returns. Other, however, have failed to measure up in such areas as performance or security.
