Practice Maturity
- CenturyLink launched its SD-WAN solution using the Versa Networks platform in 2016. Leveraging a strong MPLS installed base, the company has witnessed impressive SD-WAN revenue growth in Q1 2018, and extended its SD-WAN offerings to 500 clients backed by 16 points-of-presence (PoPs)
- Its offers basic and premium SD-WAN packages. To date, CenturyLink’s global SD-WAN service connects more than 2,200 owned and third-party data centers and 100,000 on-net buildings
- In terms of installed SD-WAN sites, the retail segment leads in terms of vertical penetration (over 25%,) followed by business services (consulting, engineering, transportation) and manufacturing
- It has presence across 37 countries, with stronger network coverage in North and South America and limited in Europe and Asia-Pacific
Partnership Ecosystem
- CenturyLink has taken a partnership-led approach to solution development and implementation. For instance, it has launched CenturyLink managed enterprise (2017) with Cisco Meraki , managed SD-WAN and security service with Versa Networks, and managed Cisco SD-WAN (2018)
- Its security services are fully supported by leading firewall providers, including Fortinet, Cisco, Palo Alto Networks and Imperva
Investments and Innovation
- With the Level 3 acquisition in 2017, CenturyLink looks to expand its SD-WAN global footprint, integrate backbone services and leverage its 12,500+ FTEs. It is planning to offer SD-WAN to 25 more countries over the next 12 months
- In addition to continued global expansion, CenturyLink will also be integrating the security package with its secure log monitoring (SLM) platform for increased security analytics and integrated SOC support
