AVASANT ANALYST INSIGHTS
Practice Maturity
- Symantec continues to expand its product and solution portfolio and improve product integration through strategic acquisitions and its partner network. To strengthen its global threat hunting, incident response and security analyst footprint, Symantec opened its sixth Security Operations Centre (SOC) in Chennai, India.
- Further, Symantec made a significant investment in building its Integrated Cyber Defense (ICD) platform over the past couple of years. It invested in R&D effort to integrate its products around key customer pain points such as protecting information in SaaS applications; integrating complementary technologies like cloud access security broker (CASB) and DLP; enhancing endpoint security with advanced endpoint detection and response (EDR).
- Its strategy is to leverage its product portfolio, partner ecosystem and global threat intelligence network to deliver ICD to enterprise customers. Additionally, its ICD platform aids in acquiring new customers and cross-sell to existing customers.
Partnership Ecosystem
- Symantec launched Technology Integration Partner Program (TIPP) eighteen months back, which in conjunction with ICD helps provide more contextual information around the cyber attack. TIPP also provides access to APIs, product support and demo licensing, which in a way help overcome industry skills shortage. TIPP currently includes 120 active technology partners which have together created 250 products and services.
- In 2018, Symantec entered into a strategic partnership with NTT Security to strengthen web security services offerings to customers across the cloud, mobile and on-premises, by combining Symantec’s ICD platform with NTT Security’s solutions.
Investments and Innovation
- In the last 12-18 months, Symantec has acquired specialized companies to enhance its product portfolio, including Skycure, Appthority and Javelin to strengthen both its mobile and enterprise security products, as well as Fireglass and Luminate which bolsters Symantec’s ICD Platform.
- It has also made multiple investments in cybersecurity start-ups through its Symantec Ventures, which started in 2017. These companies include CyberCube (2018), Digicert (2017) and Shieldx (2017).
