AVASANT ANALYST INSIGHTS
Practice Maturity
- IBM continues to invest in its security products and services. It added AI capabilities to IBM Cloud Identity, its identity-as-a-service (IDaaS) offering, which simplified access management and security for users by allocating user risk levels based on distinct factors. Hence, only high-risk users go through further scrutiny in terms of multifactor authentication, reducing operational expenses for an organization.
- In March 2019, IBM X-Force Red launched a blockchain cybersecurity service and will conduct veritable stress and penetration tests across all phases.
- As organizations are increasingly adding new cloud deployments and migrations, IBM is leveraging containers and microservices to develop a security software suite available on all environments, including on-premises and cloud. To this regard, it made its SOAR platform, Cloud Pak for Security, along with other services available across platforms.
- IBM QRadar Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) is utilized by various enterprise security teams and MSSPs to detect and prioritize threats. It is available on-premises as well as in cloud environments.
Partnership Ecosystem
- Enterprises are deploying more than one security tool procured from different vendors. To integrate these tools, IBM along with McAfee introduced Open Cybersecurity Alliance (OCA) for improved interoperability.
- It is also participating in CyberX’s partner program in the IoT security market, which involves various managed service providers (MSPs), systems integrators, consulting firms, distributors, value-added resellers and technology alliance partners.
- It collaborated with the Data Security Council of India, NASSCOM and various other universities and tech schools for talent sourcing and development. Also, the University of Ottawa plans to open a research hub in cybersecurity and cyber safety in collaboration with IBM Canada.
Investments and Innovation
- With the increasing demand for hybrid multi-cloud environments, it has become imperative for enterprises to secure data. In this regard, IBM upgraded its mainframes (z15) to include hybrid cloud and cybersecurity capabilities.
- It provides free cybersecurity training, including simulation exercises among others, to local governments in the US such as New York City and Philadelphia.
- It organizes an annual summit, Think, at different geographic locations to enable IBM users to build technical skills, expand network, and assess its security-focused offerings.
