Retiring used computer equipment such as PCs, monitors, printers, etc. is a challenge for many companies. Various disposal plans have surfaced over the last few years but most have proved ineffective. Today, the sheer volume of equipment that must be dealt with has made this a problematic issue–one that has attracted upper management attention.
As a result, the computer recycling business is booming and the price of using these services is on the upswing. For instance, the cost of having monitors properly disposed of ranges from $10 to $20 each. To have obsolete printers, disks, or PCs recycled can range from $0.30 to $1.00 per pound. For companies with thousands of seats the need to develop a workable and cost-effective disposal plan is now a serious component of their IT planning strategy.
