An Innovator’s Story: Creating a Business for Lasting Success
Ring, the first provider of video doorbells, is an interesting case study in innovation. Jamie Siminoff founded the firm in 2013, and, despite walking away from an episode of Shark Tank with no money, grew it to disrupt the home security industry. Big Quit Hits IT
In recent years, turnover has been low and steady among IT organizations. So when the “Big Quit” started to make headlines, the perception was that it was primarily led by lower-paid, less-educated workers looking for better pay. But as the headlines started referring to the “Big Quit” as the “Great Resignation,” it became clear that all types of employees in all types of jobs were leaving. Employees, driven by a combination of inflation, a need for more flexible or safer work environments, better work-life balance, the expense of childcare, and other personal reasons, were on the market for different job opportunities—even in IT. This research byte is a brief description of our findings on this subject in our IT Spending and Staffing Benchmarks 2022/2023 study.

System Implementation/ Integration Outsourcing Trends and Customer Experience 2022
The outsourcing of system implementation/integration is on the rise. Our report examines adoption trends and customer experience with system implementation/integration outsourcing. We report on the percentage of organizations outsourcing it (frequency) and the average amount of work outsourced (level). We also present data on the cost and service experience and how these trends differ by organization size and sector. We conclude with guidelines to consider when outsourcing this function.

IT Budgets Surge Ahead Despite Choppy Economic Waters
IT budgets have faced stormy weather in recent years: a global pandemic, a brief recession brought on by lockdowns, supply chain disruptions, war in Ukraine, and a year and a half of rising inflation. At each phase, we reported that IT budgets might be negatively impacted, and each time, enterprises refused to cut IT spending. It is starting to become clear that most enterprises view IT as a strategic resource in weathering the economic challenges of the last few years. IT is no longer seen as a cost center but as a strategic resource than can impact the top and the bottom line. High-profile security attacks and the impact of remote work continue to put pressure on IT security personnel. This report presents the five-year trend in IT security staffing and provides benchmarks for understanding the IT security staff head count. We analyze IT security staffing in terms of the number of applications, users, and network devices. Our analysis also includes the influence of organization size and sector on staffing requirements. DevOps Engineer Staffing Ratios 2022
DevOps is a natural extension of agile development into the deployment and operational phases of the system life cycle. It has been a way of life among modern, cloud-native software developers, and it is starting to become popular within enterprise IT organizations as well. This report provides metrics for benchmarking DevOps engineer staffing levels in the current environment. We provide four benchmarks by organization size and sector: DevOps engineering staff as a percentage of the IT staff, users per DevOps engineer, and applications per DevOps engineer.
