Vendor Discount Report (Jul. 2018)
Market intelligence on current discounting practices for business equipment can be difficult to obtain. As a result, buyers do not know whether a better deal can be negotiated. This updated report, based on our knowledge of recent deals, provides buyers with guidance concerning current discount structures on a variety of equipment. Categories include IT equipment (desktops, laptops, network equipment, printers, servers, and storage), office equipment (copiers, mail equipment), forklifts, medical equipment, test equipment, and miscellaneous equipment. Major vendors include IBM, HP, Dell, Apple, and others. Includes a downloadable PDF workbook of more than 300 deals used in the report to calculate average discounts and soft costs (14 pp., 21 figs.).

Productivity Gains Keeping IT Staff Levels in Check
IT operational budgets are growing modestly in 2018, but that growth is not being mirrored in IT staffing levels, which are essentially flat at the median. According to Computer Economics, fewer than half (46%) of all companies in its newly released IT Spending and Staffing Benchmarks 2018/2019 study are planning to increase IT headcount. This is a small drop from 2017 (49%). At the same time, we do not see widespread layoffs of IT personnel on the horizon.

For years, IT organizations have been dipping their toes into the pool, but relatively few were diving into the deep end. Modern-day SaaS providers as we know them today have been around since just before the turn of the century. Despite that, our research has shown that most companies have been slow to adopt cloud-based software for the bulk of their applications portfolios. Midsize IT Organizations Open Wallets in March to Cloud
For the most part, IT organizations continue on a path of steady but modest growth in operational budgets, while capital budgets and hiring are essentially flat, according to the Computer Economics annual IT Spending and Staffing Benchmarks study for 2018/2019. However, midsize organizations are leading the way with a much stronger 5% increase in IT operational budgets for the coming year.
