  • Technology Trends - ERP Adoption Trends and Customer Experience 2014

ERP Adoption Trends and Customer Experience 2014

ERP systems have become the platform for integration of data, information, and applications in the well-managed enterprise today. This study helps IT executives understand how aggressively their peers are investing in ERP and the risks and rewards presented by those investments. We report worldwide adoption and investment rates by sector, organization size, and geography. We also measure customer experience in terms of the success rates for return on investment (ROI) and total cost of ownership (TCO). Finally, we assess ERP investment levels for new implementations and improvements to existing systems. We wrap up with our recommendations for improving the ROI of ERP installations. Application Programmer Staffing Ratios 2015

With the changing IT environment, the need for application programmers is in flux, and IT organizations can benefit from periodic assessment of their staffing levels. This study uses three metrics to make that assessment: programmers as a percentage of the IT staff, users per programmer, and applications per programmer. We provide benchmarks for the composite sample, by organization size, and by sector. We also provide a benchmark for the larger application group, which includes personnel engaged in web development and support, quality assurance and testing, data management, and business systems analysis. Bring-Your-Own-Device Adoption and Best Practices

IT organizations are having to confront BYOD as an emerging practice and adopt policies and procedures to deal with the security, legal, and support issues that come with enabling employees to use their personal smartphones, tablets, and laptops at work. In this study, we first take a look at adoption trends for BYOD policies by organization size and sector. We also discuss the elements that every BYOD policy should contain, critical steps required to keep the organization protected for enabling BYOD and some of the solutions available for managing and securing mobile devices. To date, our research shows adoption of the practice is immature, but interest is high and adoption is rising. (16 pp., 6 figs) [Research Byte]

  • IT Spending Benchmarks - Long-Term IT Trends in the Post-Recession World

Long-Term IT Trends in the Post-Recession World

Now that IT budgets have begun to recover from the Great Recession, it is important to consider how the world has changed. What are the long-term trends of the current era? We present our findings in four parts. First, we document changes in the mix of spending within the IT operational budget since 2007, showing a dramatic shift in how IT organizations are allocating resources. Second, we examine trends in outsourcing, use of contingency workers, IT staffing, and overall IT spending. Third, we present data from companies that have aggressively moved to the cloud to get some idea of what the future will bring. We conclude with recommendations for navigating the trends of today.  (20 pp., 12 figs.) [Research Byte]
